# Pronunciation recordings — sources and licences

The 700 `.m4a` files in this folder are human pronunciations of English words,
downloaded from [Wikimedia Commons](https://commons.wikimedia.org/) and reused
here under the licences below.

**They have been modified**: each clip was converted from Ogg Vorbis to AAC,
trimmed of leading and trailing silence, and normalised to a common loudness,
because the originals vary about fourfold in level and that is unusable in a
classroom. Nothing else was altered.
